Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN)
- GPEAN is an international network of regional planning school associations. The AAPS represents Africa within GPEAN.
African Centre for Cities (ACC)
- The ACC is a platform for interdisciplinary research on urban issues (both theoretical and applied) located at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. The ACC is the umbrella organization of the AAPS. The ACC broadly aims to undertake research in a manner that advances novel ways of contemplating and understanding urbanism across the global South, while remaining rooted in the realities of African urban spaces.
- The ACC offers an MPhil degree in Urban Infrastructure: Design and Management.
Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP)
- AESOP is a network of European planning schools, and a fellow member of GPEAN.
Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO)
- WIEGO is a global research-policy network that seeks to improve the status of the working poor, especially women, in the informal economy. WIEGO and the African Centre for Cities (see above) currently cooperate in the Inclusive Cities Programme, a research project dealing with issues of urban informality.
Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS)
- The IIHS is a newly established independent National Innovation University located in India. IIHS is a 'knowledge network' partner of the African Centre for Cities (see here).

World Planning Schools Congress (WPSC) 2011
- The third WPSC will take place in Perth (Australia) from 4-8 July 2011, with the theme "Planning's Future - Futures Planning: Planning in an Era of Global (Un)Certainty and Transformation". The Congress will bring together educators and university-level researchers from Africa, North America, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Shack/Slum Dwellers International (SDI)
- SDI is an international network of residents of informal settlements, which includes members from Africa and many parts of the global South.
Urban LandMark
- Urban LandMark is a South African-based initiative that aims to shed light on how urban land markets work, and why they are often dysfunctional. Through the 'making markets work for the poor' approach, Urban LandMark hopes to influence urban policies and practices as a means of improving poor people's access to well-located land. The website provides a host of resources, including teaching learning materials, case studies and a handbook for dealing with African urban land markets.
